How long have you not cleaned the refrigerator? Deep cleaning of the refrigerator need to be done every several months, but you should still do a simple cleaning every two weeks.
Don’t let the refrigerator get too dirty to clean. In addition to causing odors and is also unhealthy for the food you store, a refrigerator that is rarely cleaned makes electricity more wasteful and also breaks down quickly.
Without regular maintenance, stains and food residue can build up on the surfaces of shelves and inner drawers. While the forgotten perishable material on the back can give off a bad smell every time you open the door.
A dirty refrigerator and full of contents, can also be the cause of the refrigerator not cooling. Here are some steps to keep your refrigerator looking good and smelling good for the long term:
1. Turn Off the Power
Unplug the refrigerator unit from the power supply. This is the first rule of any equipment maintenance, maintenance or repair work.
2. Cleaning at the Bottom of the Refrigerator
Use a vacuum cleaner and an additional brush twice a year to remove dust and hair from the grilles at the bottom of the refrigerator. This can increase the air flow to the condenser to increase the efficiency of the refrigerator.
Locate the condenser coil in the refrigerator base in front, behind the detached leg grill. If your refrigerator doesn’t have a toe grille, you’ll find the condenser coils located at the back of the refrigerator.
The condenser coil is a metal tube, wound in a U-shaped lattice pattern. If the refrigerator coil is on the back, you will have to pull the refrigerator completely away from the wall to clean it.
For models with a roll at the bottom of the appliance, remove the grill section at the front of the refrigerator. Use a bobbin brush to carefully clean around the bobbin. Vacuum or clean any dirt that sticks out.
Use a flashlight to help you spot the rolls if they are under the refrigerator, removing any loose dust and debris along the inside of the grill legs or from the back of the refrigerator.
Brush with a coil condenser brush, which you can find at electronics stores. Its cylindrical design allows you to easily slip it between the spaces in the coil grid.
Work back and forth to remove dust, and try to turn gently to get into tight corners and places. Keep the vacuum running while you brush.
If the cleaning coil is located at the back of the refrigerator, hold the narrow end of the nozzle near the brush with one hand and brush with the other. If cleaning the rolls at the bottom of the refrigerator, it’s easier to alternate brushing and then vacuuming.
3. Cleaning the Inside of the Refrigerator
Empty the refrigerator of all its contents and throw away anything you will never use. Then remove the crisper and meat drawer. Clean the shelves and the inside walls of the refrigerator with a cloth dipped in warm soapy water.
Wash the drawer in the sink with warm water and dish soap. Wipe everything down with a clean, damp cloth to remove any remaining soap residue.
Dry all washed surfaces with a clean cloth and put them back in the refrigerator. Place a freshly opened box of baking soda on one of the shelves to remove any lingering odors.
Do not use abrasive or harsh cleaners such as window spray, abrasive cleaners, flammable liquids, concentrated detergents, bleach or cleaners containing petroleum products on plastic parts, interior upholstery and doors or gaskets.
Use a toothpick to reach difficult places. Make sure you use it almost parallel to the gap so it doesn’t break or puncture anything.
4. Cleaning the Refrigerator Gasket
Pay special attention to the rubber around the refrigerator door. Gaskets need to be cleaned regularly to keep the seal tight.
Use warm water and liquid dish soap to remove dirt and mildew. Rinse thoroughly then wipe dry.
5. How to Clean the Refrigerator Exterior
Keep your refrigerator sparkling with a good exterior cleaning. Simply clean with a cloth sprayed with an all-purpose cleaner. Remember to occasionally wipe the top of the refrigerator as well.
While this area may not see daily traffic from handles and doors, dust can build up there over time. How to clean a stainless steel refrigerator is slightly different, first clean the surface with a damp microfiber cloth, then wipe it dry.
When the dirt is a little more stubborn, try rubbing it with rubbing alcohol. Apply a few drops of rubbing alcohol to a soft cloth and rub it over the stain.
6. Check Periodically
After cleaning, make sure you keep the refrigerator settings up regularly. Check the contents of the refrigerator and get rid of old food that is almost rotting. Throw it away before it starts to smell bad in your refrigerator.
There are several types of refrigerator that may be cleaned differently than those described above. However, regardless of the type of refrigerator, it must be cleaned regularly so that it can last a long time.
