For those of you as car users, of course you are familiar with the term overhaul or maybe usually better known as engine down.
This condition is where the car engine is dismantled in half or completely depending on the obstacles experienced. This is intended to check for problems or damage that occurs.
Down the machine itself is divided into two conditions, namely damage to the block and cylinder. If the problem is in the cylinder head, then all that needs to be dismantled is the top, or what we usually call the top overhaul.
As discussed above, overhaul itself is actually an engine inspection of a car. Even though the car has been checked or serviced on a regular basis, it is not uncommon for several factors to cause a problem that requires the engine to be removed.
1. Overheat
The causes of overheating car engines is because the cooling system in the car has problems, both the radiator fan and cooling water. Usually the initial symptoms of this problem are marked by a vehicle that often breaks down.
Overheat itself can cause more severe damage to the components in the car engine if not treated immediately. The damage in question is such as a curved cylinder head, oil mixed with water, and so on.
The next symptom that you should suspect is when the engine overheats, even at low speed.
If these conditions occur, you automatically have to do an overhaul. Usually what will be done is to disassemble the engine and remove the cylinder head.
But keep in mind, be sure to call an expert to do it. Because the repair process should not be carried out at random, otherwise the damage will get worse.
2. Submerged of the Machine
Driving a car in rainy or flooded conditions can cause water to enter the car engine, or commonly known as a water hammer. The large amount of water that enters the engine will continue to flow until it finally enters the combustion chamber.
If it is like this, there will be a lot of damage that can occur, such as piston parts that will have holes and even break, strike, damaged crankshaft, and others.
Therefore, it is best to avoid roads with high puddles of water when driving.
3. The Bad Lubricant
The lubrication system is one of the most important factors to prevent overheating when there is friction in the engine.
When the lubricant does not work properly, it is certain that the engine will be damaged due to the friction that occurs.
To check whether this system is functioning properly or not, you can check the remaining oil level regularly using a deep stick oil tool.
Oil that is not in accordance with standards can also be a factor in damage because it will dry quickly.
4. The Oil Mixed with the Water
As discussed above, driving on a highly flooded road can cause water to enter the combustion chamber. This can cause the oil to mix with water and cause corrosion on the inside of the car engine.
This condition is characterized by a change in the color of the oil to brown. In mild cases, you only need to visit the repair shop to change the oil with a new one.
However, if the condition is already severe, down the machine must be done to check the damage that occurs.
5. The Broken Timing Belt
The next factor that causes a car to drop the engine is a broken timing belt. This part itself under normal conditions serves as a source of power for the crankshaft.
If this partition is damaged or broken then the pistons and valves will collide with each other and will eventually be damaged.
Even though in certain conditions the damage is not significant, the consequences will still be, namely a strike. The right way if this condition really occurs is to replace it with a new one.
6. The Exhaust Smoke
Exhaust smoke is normal and it is natural to come out. However, if it is excessive to a solid white color, then this is a sign that there is a problem in the car engine.
Generally the problem that causes this is oil entering the combustion chamber causing the spark plugs that are there to burn too.
If it is like this, the oil will decrease drastically and other damage will also occur, such as the valve, cylinder head, packing head, bore cylinder, and piston.
Because all the parts that have been mentioned are contained in the same engine block, to repair it, the engine must be removed.
7. The Water of Radiator
Radiator water is a special liquid that is deliberately made for the purpose of cooling the car so that overheating conditions can be prevented. Generally these components are made with liquid characteristics and can absorb heat in a short time.
In general, there are two conditions of damage to this section that can result in lowering the machine, namely:
- Oily Radiator Water
The rusty condition of the cylinder head if left unchecked will cause holes that cause oil to enter the water line, or water can also enter the compression chamber.
If this problem is handled quickly so that the damage is not too severe, you just need to replace the cylinder head to fix it.
However, if the damage is very severe, which is usually marked by a change in the color of the oil to brown, then down the engine will have to be done.
- Lack of Radiator Water
In general, this situation occurs due to leaks in the water pump, engine, or radiator. Or it could also occur due to damage to some partitions, such as the cylinder head and cylinder gasket.
This condition is usually marked by water that spurts when the car is first started.
8. The Engine Sound
This one thing can also be a sign that there is one or more things wrong and damaged in the car engine.
If the problem lies with the pulley that is located outside the engine, dismounting the engine is not necessary. But if it turns out that the problem lies on the inside of the engine, inevitably an overhaul must be undertaken.
Those are some of the causes that you should know as a driver and car owner before getting off the engine.
It is also very important to take precautions to anticipate these problems. To make it happen, you can do regular service or maintenance.
Using quality fuel is also an important factor that many people forget and underestimate.
If there has been damage to one or even several components or car spare parts, don’t delay bringing it to a repair shop for a thorough repair.
